"Once a helper always a helper."
Heh, we had a hall of shame for demoted players and helpers, just hasnt been updated in a while.
This situation has been brewing for weeks. Almost everytime I have seen helpers trying to stop the situation, or sometimes normal players joining in. Ive muted people a few times when I saw it going too far. The issue is, people dont understand that people are always going to be as*holes, and theres nothing we can do. If we permban a player for it, or even mute them, then theres 10 ready to take their place. We try as hard as possible, but at the end of the day, people will hardly ever change. Now you might argue that we should just ban those people. Honestly, I think half the server would be gone if we permbanned those players that caused issues regularly, but always issues in global chat, but issues between players are constantly there.
The point about players having "power", trust me, the admins and mods wouldnt hesitate to ban a player who thought they had "power", when they actually are just making them self look better than they are.
Chance, at the end of the day, if a staff member has a serious problem with someone who might be getting promoted, then they dont get promoted. You know that. The reason kye got promoted was because we thought he changed. After doing all that stuff the first time he got demoted, and honestly, im not sure how he got repromoted, I dont recall being there, though I might have been. But he did get demoted and banned, didnt he?
People expect us to constantly be watching, 24/7 making informed decisions every second of the day, when honestly, we cant. Its not how it works. Say a law is going to be passed in, it doesnt happen in the space of a day does it? Obviously its not on the same level as a staff member being demoted, but the fact is we need to get everyones opinion on the matter, and eventually do something, and some people can be harder to get a hold of than others.
Reevaluating the helper team is something that we have been planning, but due to time zones, personal matters which I wont be explaining for obvious reasons, and hasnt been possible at the moment.
Trust me, staff members do try. If they didnt they would be gone by now(or will be going very shortly). Its harder than you think to deal with the matters in a way, and honestly, its partly the players fault that staff are almost "scared" to mute players. Everytime I see a player getting muted, the muted player will start messaging the staff member, swearing and saying they will get reported for inproperly muting them. I see this happening way to much.
Personally, I dont believe that the chat rules should be enforced vigorously, people being muted for saying a single wrong word, or back to the older days where people would get tempbanned for basic chat infractions. Drama is constantly here, and everywhere. We're not in a different universe, we are in the real life. Drama will always exist, theres no way of getting away, theres no way of hiding completly. The /ignore command is helpful, but I understand it always isnt good enough.
Report things like this directly to a staff member. I will create a post in the staff forums where staff can upload a screenshot of it and the staff can hopefully look at it together and properly.
