Ender chests are supposed to be private to you only I believe.

Enderchests contain its own inventory to the player that opens it.
The only reason why it should be protected is for players that try to take it.

That would crazy as hell, then everyone can just set a block somewhere and met it his, so no-one can remove it, and just leave it there to annoy them.
That is why there is worldgaurd, it only can be made by moderators and admins, who are fully reliable for there actions, and some idiot who just private it for himself and do nothing with it.
