That means minecraft.net is down cheek help.mojang.com

Didn't actually look at the error report but someone was DDoSing the server.

if it was a DDos it would say read time out and not connect

It wasn't a DDoS. Minecraft.net was simply down.
The DoS attack (not DDoS) had nothing to do with it.
