I honestly have no idea why it'd have a difference if it were royal instead of plasma, but I assume it's associated with the new aercloud colors.

I don't know why, but I just like it called plasma... Royal sounds ugly.

Royal sounds actually expensive and cool. Plasma is now in use for differently coloured aerclouds (for example: the red aercloud at voteshop) and I personally think the name fits well with its use.
EDIT: Spoiler alert! Probably a name change because differently coloured ones will be available to players soon. Never know!
