Server Monetisation. Uh Oh...

Post by SPIDERS_ » Fri Jun 13, 2014 6:15 am

Mojang recently wrote this on their website: https://mojang.com/2014/06/lets-talk-se ... etisation/

Now, I know Mojang doesn't keep track of every server and know whether that server does use a "pay to win system" or not (cause that would a LOT of servers). The only way they would know that Craftland has a *somewhat* "pay to win system" is if someone complains to Mojang about these matters.

This doesn't affect me and I'm not saying we should remove the ranking system, since it's an excellent way for Craftland to earn money and be able to add awesome features to the server, but it's something that may need to be considered sooner or later and I hope it doesn't have to come to that anyway.

Thanks for reading! What do you think about this? Is it unfair or not?

If you actually read mojangs post the only thing it affects for us is the special offers, also this has been around for years if you actually bothered to read the tos for minecraft.

I can see your point nickmcski. Yes I DID actually read Mojangs post, which is the obvious reason why I wrote this post, and as I stated it is only the ranks that would be of concern (even though there probs won't be a concern) because Mojang stated that "You are not allowed to split your playerbase into paying, and non-paying users, nor can you restrict gameplay elements to different tiers of player."

I may not have read the T.o.S for Minecraft, but Mojangs recent post did state that "Legally, you are not allowed to make money from our products", which implied that its in the T.o.S.

But thanks for informing me.

(Just to make it clear: I'm NOT saying that the ranks will be removed, I just wanted to inform people and ask for their opinion)

"You are allowed to accept donations from players. You can thank them publicly or in-game, but can’t give preferential treatment for donating. You are not allowed to restrict gameplay features in an attempt to make money."

You do realized that if Chellius wasn't around, Craftland would have gone down months ago.

Yes indeed chev really spent some german month sallarys for craftland. Otherwise the server would have been shut down month ago. I heard some numbers from Nide according to that and they are based on 4 digits per number and remember we are talking about Euros. So we really have to be thankfull to switzerland in that case. Thats why I really want to see the potential of craftland fully used. A bit more help like making us more public would really be very helpfull. Cause of the server can run easily more slots and it would make more sense to put time in coding and making it better if there would be a continuous growth an not like a kept balance. Honestly i think that everybody can get a fair amount of fun out of a bigger and stronger growing community cause of there is just nothing like this server.

The problem that i rather see is not that we need players for money, but we need them for development and a stronger backbone. Honestly craftland has got a lot of wheels cause of its opportunities, but we are still using only one or two, not more then 3 of them. Why isnt there anybody who wants to write puplic relations on other mc sites or updates status on server lists? Why are we not having a continuous youtube presence in different speeches? I mean is it really that hard to write a few lines a day instead of klicking a mouse button?

Maybe we could do more on the Craftland Youtube channel, as Soul said. If we uploaded videos about new features, current projects (we could do some tutorials :P) and upcoming events, this would bring lots of new players to the server. Basically, if you send a video to nide and he likes it, he could put it on the Youtube channel. This is also a great oppurtunity for more competitions as well, which would also contribute to bringing in more players.

last year I tried to make a script to make it so that players can upload things to the channel but wouldn't be public until approval by a admin. I will give that script another shot (https://www.youtube.com/user/CraftlandCommunity" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;)

Nick if you bring that to life I am gonna donate another 20 Euro! If somehow it would be posdible to have videos inside craftland (like paintings with youtube capability if you right klick the vid starts) i would donate another 20 Euros!

I ll do a list for what gamefeatures i will donate in the future for example carpenter blocks, aurora rubialus, buddy cam, sonic unbelievable shaders, holo inventory, etc. For that i am gonna add a voting system to see who would go with me and that i guess would give nide a good opportunity to point out some things for updates.

Crash if you are willing to take the opportunity to get things done i am gonna pount that out in nides direction and we can maybe find a really nice solution and motivation for such a job! Nide is a pretty smart one and a fair one, I assume it would be easy to find a cool teamwork. In order to how often moderators are online and that would be a moderators job aswell iam talking about, one or two more mods should not be the problem am I wrong? If every moderator would go for one bigger mc site with some sort of project which makes other curious, that would help a lot and if it would be possible to link the projects to a youtube acvount which would slightly advertise the server jt would work with ease i guess.

Regards

Soul
