Custom Paintings with Transparent Backgrounds?

So I've been dabbling in using the empty paintings for custom text "signs" and the like. One issue that I have come across with this is that I'm trying to take advantage of .png images that have an alpha transparent background. Yet, when I try to upload the photos into the empty painting gui, the backgrounds always turn out black. Yet, I've seen a few shops that have images (what I assume are paintings) that have transparent backgrounds, and I'd like to be able to take advantage of the same features with my signs. One example of what I'm looking for is at /warp caitys shop . Any input on this feature is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Can you link the png your using? I think there may just be a problem with the image.

I did the same thing in GIMP and uploaded it up imgur. I'm not certain what you mean by export settings. Care to walk me through what you mean a bit?

Between referencing your guide and researching proper exporting in GIMP I've managed to get it to work. Thanks a lot for your attention in this topic. I'm hopeful that it will help others in the future who may have the same issue.
