Re: What double standards look like.
Look, I know you want players to be treated equally, but staff do reserve respect, and it has everything to do with politics and whatnot, as that is the real world equivalent and that is what our base for respect should be. Why treat authority figures any different than in real life? This may be the internet, but every account has a real person (or atleast I think, it is possible that 1 or 2 are AIs being devolped by the gov.) sitting behind his or her desk in real life. Why treat people on this server, which was one of my top picks for family friendly servers, any different than if they were infront of you, in real life. I know some get kicks out of using a name given by themselves as a shield, and using 'the internet' as an excuse. That is why people get banned, that is why people complain to staff, one way or another. So, want the double standards to stop? Then those out there who make these problems, stop being the double standards yourselves.Batman wrote:But that's just your opinion.Unicorn wrote:In my opinion you should let double standard be double standard... Re: What double standards look like.
If it wasnt for the players, there wouldnt be any staff, nor would there be a server to play on. The same permits to real life.PhantomAtLarge wrote:Look, I know you want players to be treated equally, but staff do reserve respect, and it has everything to do with politics and whatnot, as that is the real world equivalent and that is what our base for respect should be. mhm... Players deserve the same respect as any staff members in Craftland. Otherwise Craftland would be nothing.

Re: What double standards look like.
Very very true, but before we reform the staff to respect the common player, we must get the common player to respect the common player. If you treat your comrades and fellow players like crap, then fix your behavior before you fix the staff and authorities. Note: I am not pointing fingers, those who commented are all very good people.Jovaniph wrote:mhm... Players deserve the same respect as any staff members in Craftland. Re: What double standards look like.
You can't get players to respect other players. That's not going to happen because social engineering players is a authoritarianism mindset. This is about granting players the same right as staff when it comes to punishing offenders.
I believe I said it before, If someone disrespects me, they should get the same punishment as if they disrespected a staff member. Basically equal punishment.

Re: What double standards look like.
Ah, but that does't mean change the mindset, that is impossible. It means that these trouble makers get the equal punishment as if they were fighting a staff member, but not by lowering the punishment of fighting staff, but by raising the punishment of fighting the common player. The staff should not be respected any less, but the player has very little protection from chat infraction/cyberbullying and even trollers who take things a little too far. One thing I stick to is that the mute system does not discourage trolling/chat infraction for people who enjoy it, but simply leaves our little troll waiting for his 15 minutes to be up, so he can dive back in. This happens because the chemical reaction that makes one action less rewarding after long periods of time, cannot happen if the trolling is interrupted for long enough. It is what makes Candy Crush so addicting, and it may be one of the reason mutes don't work. Something about the 'mute' has to have an obvious and effective negative, to spell out to the brain in big red letters:Jovaniph wrote:You can't get players to respect other players. Re: What double standards look like.
If you have a suggestions for these cyberbullies and so called trolls, feel free to talk about it in this post: viewtopic.php?f=12&t=5464" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Pig already made a great suggestion. Feel free to read before you post something already talked about.
This forum post talks about double standards and equality.
The other one talks about chat infractions.

Re: What double standards look like.
So I thought id make a small update on what has been going on with this issue, and that it was not forgotten.
Nick decided to work on a new system, that was effectivly much better than the origional idea, but also fix other issues that had been getting raised in this topic, dealing with not all helpers giving the same mute times for the same offense(partially to do with higher staff giving different information), staff not having communication between each other to do with players getting warned several times a day by different staff, and other things. And so, the warn command was born.
Though, bare in mind that all of this information is subject to change, and certain things might be changed, upgraded, removed, whatever. But dont take any of it to be exact.
Simply, it allows a helper to warn a player, either giving a custom reason, or using predefined reasons to warn a player. It is a simple command, player name and either custom message, or warn catagory, which are all easily known. This then sends the player a message, stating they have been warned, and then does the intellegent part. It checks for all the times a player has been warned, and if they have been warned a certain amount of times, it automatically mutes the player, depending on how recent the warnings where and how many they have. It also depends on what the warning catagory is, with different catagories muting for longer periods of time.
Now that is only the tip of the iceberg. It is *planned*, again, none, all or only parts of this might be done - for the system to be able to:
- Display all mutes for players
- Be able to remove warnings if accidentally done
- Ban players if they recieve to many warnings (Im not sure, but it looks as if it does this already, but I couldnt get a hold of nick at the time of writing this)
And a fair bit more, but most of the other things are only just mensioned, but not actually completly considered.
At the moment, the system is still being tweaked, and while on the live server, is not meant for proper use. Parts may be changed, removed, upgraded, anything could happen, but I think this is what people were after. Again, this was made mainly by nick, but may have been helped by nide and marc (I didnt do anything other than play about with it), so big thanks to him.
Nick, feel free to correct me on any of this, I just thought we couldnt leave this topic open here.
