To create a town you would need a high amount, to expand a low amount.
Joining a town would also require a small amount which goes to the town you wish to join, so they can eventually expand.
The high costs for founding a town will cause that there won't be much of them, so players who voted many times already can easily found one if they want to, instead that "noobs" do that
Makes sense. The larger the player count in the down, the larger the vote, so the larger the region.

But rather than "Pay for the region", "Rent the region", this way they can't grow too large.
E.G if you rent 40 blocks, you pay 40 points, if you dont have 40 points the next week, the region decays and is up to be greifed etc.

Comes with the added benefits of cleaning up land with greifers.
What about players that left the server a while ago, what encsentive will they have to come back on?
To make sure their shit survives, obviously.

If they left because they didn't enjoy it, we add this, and they don't like it still, they won't play. Simple. We arn't trying to drag them bloodied and screaming back with cash and bling.

Whoah, when you say "To make sure their shit survives" do you mean that we'll be making some existing areas from older players griefable, and they would have to come back to ensure its continued existence?

nonono. Definitely not what was planned. There was some gray-area on thinking for this part. The new world would have towns and nothing else would; you can't just spring out griefing and pvp on people when they haven't been playing.
Also, this would devastate the economy, as there are many people who have incredibly large chest rooms full of valuables, yet those people don't play anymore.

Thank god. I have a LOT of stuff in the aether, and trying to keep it all regioned with towns would suck!
Just throwing this out there, but have any of you admins considered a complete wipe of all worlds? It SOUNDS nuts, but it would cure the economy and provide a nice platform for everyone to start again.

Many admins are far from communicated. I'd prefer not to talk about such a large thing like that in public, even though I'm not an admin anymore; Some may freak out.

I actually thought that would be good at one stage, but in forcing that would just lead to problems, moaning and rage quiters!

Right now theres about 493 Active Players in 7days.

so i guess you'd do a poll for 7days hoping to reach 493 votes.

eh dont know, didnt think about it, would be too much of a large step!

Cynthriel, if something is suggested or a hot topic, there is being talked about it.
As for the wipe out, it would make everyone have to start over again, make/finding new things.
A new world gen does also mean that all elements can be found in all worlds, besides just one.
This will also give the opportunity to make a world with towns without griefing and a world with towns allowed to be griefed.

I wouldn't like a wipe. Even with 2 people, Katie and I took forever to get all that we have.
Back on topic, though, the new world should have a town system, plus greifing, like it was mentioned earlier.

To some people, world resets are a sensitive topic. When I was admin, I talked to fearfulsky about it, and told him it's nothing decided, I just want his input on it -- he freaked out, told everyone it was going to happen and then quit, even thought I told him 1000 times that what I was saying is just a conversation, and not a plan. He came back I think, then quit because his computer is messed up.

I think a poll for it would be a good idea and give details on why it's a nice plan. It has been something I've wanted for a long time and have talked to nide about.

Until a large explanation, started by staff, that supported the players' interests on why it's a good idea, I think it should be debated with few players on a one-to-one basis, and formulate a base of players who support. That way, many people will not quit over a reset.

Also, before a reset, much effort needs to be put into the server for the economy to be stable this time around.
