How about some kind of thingy on the front page that tells you quickly if the server is up/down, and if it's down, also WHY (crash/maintenance, dev)
I would find this a lot more useful and efficient than trying to get an aswer from people on the irc.
This would of course add to Nidefawl's workload with at least 2 clicks every once in a while.

doesn't it say status: under maitenance and stuff or that it is down already at the top of the screen

look at the post date: Mon May 23, 2011, it was added a while after he suggested it
