I don't now if apples are incorporated or not, but I think a good suggestion would be to add them as a drop from leaves. That way there is another source of healing and people could get more than saplings and logs from trees.

You can get apples from hitting the leaves of trees, but it is really rare. Apples are rare to find so that is why you don't see apples very much in both SMP and single player. An apple only heals 2, but there are so many food items you can eat on minecraft that I don't see apple needing to be a more common item. This is just my take on it, but Nidefawl is the final word.

haha well I'm glad the apples are there. It gave me something to do with my gold ingots. And now I got plenty of apples.
